How Can You Love Yourself and Others in a Culture Obsessed with Material Wealth and Perfectionism?

How Can You Love Yourself and Others in a Culture Obsessed with Material Wealth and Perfectionism?

We live in a cultural time where most people are lovers of material things more than people. My family and I live as Biblical as we possibly can in an ever over-consuming world.  When we really like something we express how much we enjoy what the Good Lord provides. In the end, all of this stuff is just stuff – People are more important than stuff.  We make mistakes, we give each other grace, and we keep moving forward without condemnation. We are just doing our best not to be over consumed by loving things more than we love people.

I was inspired to write this because I believe through Christ I have overcome the obsession with perfectionism. I used to love things particularly creating art and having things look perfect more than loving God.  I am thankful that The Lord has mercy and saved my life from the emptiness that comes from loving things more than people. I am most certainly not where I would like to be, but Thank God I am not where I used to be in this area.

Remember materialism and perfectionism are the devils little foxes that spoil the vine. Please take note that the world’s definition of perfection and God’s definition of perfection are very different. Please do not make the same mistake I made and believe they both work together because they don’t. If you are interested in the subject, please take some time to look at the biblical definition of perfection and do a personal study on the matter.

After learning about this particular topic, my family and I have found out that loving material things more than God is considered idolatry and is not acceptable in the Kingdom of God. So we’ve settled with ourselves and each other to emphasize loving The Lord with all our hearts, mind, and souls- then love people as we love ourselves. Just because we’ve settled with this truth doesn’t mean we are good at putting this into action. This isn’t an over night thing, please really let that one sink in. Love doesn’t happen overnight and it’s not found in religion. Love is found in relationship. This kind of love takes time and it isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. I do believe that the heart of God;  just like every loving parent is more invested in the relationship than the outward results of behavior.

What Does Love Really Mean?

It truly takes the power of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit to really love..

Let’s take a moment to look at what Scripture says about love in 1 Corinthians 13

1 Corinthians 13 New Living Translation (NLT)

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.
11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

So how can you love yourself and others in a biblical context while living in a culture that is obsessed with vanity, material wealth, and perfectionism?

The answer is still found in 1 Corinthians 13, it takes time and effort to love this way, but through the power of the Holy Spirit – this kind of love is perfected in Christ and obtainable. Hallelujah! I have not arrived but I am on the way.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to really love God, love myself, and others. I really don’t want hit and miss results here.  I really want to love the way Jesus loves me.  So I began to pray about it. I have asked the Lord to help me articulate 1 Corinthians 13 into my every day life. Please take note this is a little reminder for me on how to love others on a moment to moment basis.  We all have our own interpretation of the word love based on experiences-So let’s all just keep growing towards the real definition of love from a biblical context. I  know that I am learning and growing in this area daily and as I grow- I am making many mistakes but God is so good He even makes my mistakes to prosper.

Please enjoy this free Scripture printable of 1 Corinthians 13

The Simplicity of loving yourself and others means

  • Renew your mind and keep it set on the finished work of Jesus Christ ( living from a place of the resurrection)
  • Guarding your heart above all else
  • Set healthy and realistic goals for yourself
  • Have healthy boundaries in place for everyone including yourself
  • Saying no more often ( let people experience disappointment, it will help them understand you are not a doormat)
  • Only committing yourself to what you can accomplish in each season of life.
  • Eat frequently, hydrate, and get plenty of rest ( No staying up late to craft)
  • Speak kindly to yourself and others even when things go unexpectedly
  • Have plenty of Do- overs ( in case you haven’t practiced this before a do over simply means- I messed up and I need to do that thing I should have done right over again)
  • Do not over work yourself ( do what you can with the time you have and save the rest for the next day)
  • Start doing one thing at a time, multi-tasking triggers frustration, anger, and isn’t bringing productivity.
  • Do not rush yourself on the account of someone else’s impatience.
  • Stay committed to the calling God has for you. Remain loyal, faithful, and trustworthy.

I hope this blog article about How Can You Love Yourself and Others in a Culture Obsessed with Material Wealth and Perfectionism has been insightful and a blessing to you. Please make sure to download your free copy of the Scripture art I have included with this post.

Many Blessings,

Sharing the Love of the Gospel Through Stationery – Why Does it Matter? pt 2

Sharing the Love of the Gospel Through Stationery- Why Does it Matter? Pt. 2

In last weeks blog article, I shared with you ” The Beginnings of Have Faith Stationery. ” Today in my two part series I will share with you my biggest reasons why I share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through stationery and paper crafting.  If you haven’t read part 1 of this series, please take a moment to visit it here

In today’s part two blog article, I will share with you 14 examples of the most needed and desired people to share the Gospel with through your handmade stationery and greeting cards. At the end of today’s post is a wonderful reminder from the King of Glory about giving to the needy and about earthly possessions.

If you are a card maker and have found yourself asking what else can I make? Who can benefit from the greeting cards I make?

May I encourage you to create stationery to Glorify God and spread His message? I plan on using the tools and talent He’s given  to reach the lost and broken hearted in my sphere of influence. Would you like to join me in sowing the seeds of faith to reap a harvest of blessings for the Kingdom of God?

If this topic interests you, please have the liberty to get started.  In the weeks to come I have planned out a series of blog articles for Cricut Design Space Files that can help you get started with making cards.

14 examples of expanding the Gospel in the lives around you

  •  First, make cards for your family.  It’s so important to focus on the spiritual needs of your household before you branch out to share the Gospel.

  • Make greeting cards for the homeless
  • Make greeting cards for the lonely
  • Make greeting cards for the elder
  • Make greeting cards for the single parents and orphans
  • Make greeting cards for your enemies
  • Make greeting cards for the people who clean the toilets at your job
  • Make greeting cards for the sick and lame and tell them the Good News that Jesus heals all sickness!
  • Make greeting cards for the military, the veterans, and their families
  • Make greeting cards for the poor and meet their needs
  • Make greeting cards for the missionaries who will visit other countries ( the workers are few but they need your help)
  • Make greeting cards for your neighbors
  • Make greeting cards for the fellowship you attend so as a community of believers you can further expand your reach of the lost
  • Make greeting cards for the people that everyone else forgets about.

Jesus didn’t forget about You or them and we shouldn’t either!

Jesus’ Teaching about Giving to the Needy Matthew 6 NLT

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

Isn’t this message about giving powerful? In our culture the average person spends most of their time “sharing” all their good deeds on social media. Let us all live the example that The Lord Jesus Christ has set before us and give to those in need privately.

Jesus’ Teaching about Money and Possessions Matthew 6 NLT

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!

24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

I am thankful for the reminders from The Lord Jesus Christ about the things of this earth.  I am thankful that I don’t have to worry about my life because Jesus already has the provision I need daily. I really like making cards but I don’t want to make it more important than my relationship with God or people.  My focus for 2019 and beyond is that I will love the Lord with all my heart, mind, and soul. Then I want to love myself more and extend more love to my neighbors.

It is my hope that my 2 part blog article series “Sharing the Love of the Gospel Through Stationery- Why Does it Matter?” was a enormous blessings to you in your paper crafting journey and with people.

“How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Many Blessing in the Messiah,

Sharing the Love of the Gospel Through Stationery-Why it Matters PT 1

Sharing the Love of the Gospel Through Stationery- Why it Matters PT 1

In last weeks blog article, I shared with you ” The Beginnings of Have Faith Stationery. ”

In today’s two part blog article series I will share with you my biggest reasons why I share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through stationery and paper crafting.

Creating stationery is more than just making things, its about creatively expressing a meaningful message to make a lasting impact on a person’s life.

My mentor and sister in the Lord says it quite beautifully

Words are powerful.
On  a card or out of your mouth.
The Gospel Shared is always a good thing.
It burns in my heart to share the Gospel Creatively.
Jesus is BIG into sharing by the written word.

Viewing Life & God's Creation from a Different Lens.

Viewing Life & God's Creation from a Different Lens

Sharing the Gospel Creatively

When I received the Holy Spirit, it was a life changing event that journeyed me into viewing life from a different lens. I started to think about what The Lord wanted to do with these tiny art messages that I enjoyed creating. I began to think about people differently. I  ask the Lord frequently to help me see and hear people from His perspective so that I may minister His love to them.

♥I think about the broken people others have forgotten about. There are so many angry, hurting, and lonely people in the world who just need an ear to listen to them.
Many children in the world are abandoned by their parents, raised by single parents, or have lost a parent through tragedy. Some children were never taught about the Love of God through Christ Jesus. Some of these hurting people will be the next generation who will have to run things when we get older.

Let’s be BOLD from this point on to pour the love of God to our communities and in the lives of these children who desperately need to know they are loved.  TRUST ME- they NEED to KNOW.

A father’s love in a child’s life is so vital. The enemy knows this and uses this as a tool to destroy children. Almighty God ( Daddy) is the best father because He is the Creator of Heaven & Earth.  He loves us with an everlasting love.

More people need to know they are loved with an everlasting love that is unshakeable and unbreakable.

♥I think about the times when I was an unbeliever and needed to know that God really loved me.  I think about all the people who will spend their eternity separated from God. This is a truth most people don’t want to acknowledge or accept. It would be unloving for me to keep this important detail of truth to myself. Whether a person wants to accept it or not, eternal separation from God is a serious matter that needs to be addressed.

Looking to Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of your faith for your answers is the most courageous step to take in understanding how to live a Godly life and share His messages. He will provide you with all your needs and refresh you in each season. Quite frankly, I lived a rough life and after having a near death experience in May 2019- at the tail end of my 30’s I am learning how to live my life biblical. I have not fully arrived, I make a lot of mistakes, and I am not where I would like to be in my walk –BUT God is so good, so patient, so kind, so merciful, and slow to anger. ( I am so grateful that He really knows me and gets me).

O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who takes refuge in Him.

I am expecting to see more of the Glory of the Lord as I continue to press into my God- given destiny.

May I encourage you to start boldly declaring the works of the Lord in your sphere of influence? The people God has positioned in your life need to hear your testimonies, they need to hear about how loving, merciful, and good God really is.

In part two of this blog article ( which will follow shortly after this one), I will share with you 14 examples of the most needed and desired people to share the Gospel with through your handmade stationery and greeting cards.

I am hopeful in prayer that this two part blog article inspires you to create stationery for the forgotten. May the Lord bless your hands to create for Him.
